Interior Storytelling Rooted in Sustainable, Engaging & Functional Design

MY STORY

Laura Freeman, Allied ASID
WELL AP | LEED Green Associate

My artistic mission as a designer is to stimulate creativity, respect the environment, create a beautiful or magical experience, and inspire my clients to relax, explore their senses, and enjoy themselves.

I bring 20 years of experience in the art community covering illustration, graphic design, and corporate branding. With a master’s degree in interior architecture & design, I specialize in collaborating with builders and architects from the beginning, offering my clients fresh, creative, and efficient space planning ideas, maximizing square footage, raising questions, and incorporating sustainable solutions.

I cherish the time I spent as a Senior Art Director at Walt Disney World, designing character sets, transforming workspaces, and leading a team of phenomenal illustrators to create magical, custom interior elements within Disney resorts and restaurants around the world.

As an avid cook who comes from a family of chefs, I excel in beautiful and efficient kitchen design, sharing my experiences working in a variety of private and communal kitchens, guiding a wide array of clients from culinary novices to prolific entertainers.

Staying true to my wellness beliefs, healthy living is a top priority, and I enjoy staying active through yoga, paddle boarding, and tennis, and making delicious dishes with my family from locally sourced products found at neighborhood farmers’ markets.

WELLNESS AND THE WELL AP

The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as “the active pursuit of activities, choices, and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.”

Holistic health is multi-dimensional, including physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental attributes, and there are many studies that demonstrate how our environments directly affect these six dimensions.

As a WELL AP (Accredited Professional), I’ve elevated my passion for helping my clients thrive by earning a certification as an expert in delivering more thoughtful and intentional spaces that enhance human health and well-being in your home, office, or hospitality spaces.

I bring a unique perspective to your interiors, implementing design strategies covering an array of concepts: air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind, and community; and I relish the opportunity to maximize the enjoyment of your environments, both functionally and aesthetically.

I am poised and ready to serve as a WELL consultant on your commercial project, guide your team toward WELL certification, or integrate chosen strategies into your residence to focus on your health and well-being.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

“Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.” ~ Frank Lloyd Wright.

It’s estimated that the average American spends 90% of their time indoors, so what we do with our indoor spaces is of the upmost importance to our overall physical and mental health. Connecting our indoor spaces to nature is the foundation of biophilic design, and it lights me up.

Biophilic design is about optimizing natural light, views to greenery outside, prioritizing water features and organic materials, and providing comfortable spatial relationships that can promote either relaxation or productivity.

What natural elements speak to you on an emotional level? The range of blues and grays in the sea or rich earth tones? The patterns in foliage? The textures of the shoreline? A crackling fire and glow of candlelight? Bringing your innate propensities into your interior spaces creates magical moments. A walk on the beach or paddling on the water brings a state of serenity and clarity to my inner soul.
